This web site is based on the traveling exhibition, Global Warming:
Understanding the Forecast, which is on display at the Smithsonian's
National Museum of Natural History this summer from May 10 through
September 1, 1997.
The National Museum of Natural History, located at 10th and
Constitution on the National Mall, is open every day from 10 A.M. to
5:30 P.M. Admission to the museum and the exhibition is free. For
more information call (202) 357-2700.
Developed jointly by the American Museum of Natural History and the
Environmental Defense Fund, the exhibition includes dozens of hands-on exhibits,
models, interactive computer simulations, and video displays that show how greenhouse
gases warm the earth, how energy use could affect global warming, and what life would be
like in a warmer world if global average temperatures rise 2° to 6° F., as currently predicted.
Some two million people have already seen Global Warming on its
national tour, and an estimated 2.5 million people are expected to visit
the museum in Washington this summer. After the Smithsonian, the exhibition
will return to Columbia University's Biosphere 2 Center near
Tucson, Arizona, where it will remain on permanent display.
