Techno-Fixes Problematic Solutions: Are They Worth the Risk?

Some people think that large-scale engineering can be used to counteract global warming. They have suggested "techno-fixes" to decrease the amount of sunlight reaching the Earth or to remove heat-trapping gases from the air.

These extreme measures have not been fully evaluated and carry the risk of unexpected environmental side effects. Moreover, they could draw attention and resources away from more practical efforts to reduce emissions of heat-trapping gases.
