The Site
Global Warming: Focus on the Future is the official web version of
the exhibit, Global Warming: Understanding the Forecast, which has
been touring the U.S. and is currently on display at the Smithsonian
Institute. It was developed by the Knauer
Group for the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) as an
educational tool for the exhibit.
The title for the website was specifically crafted to create a positive
message related to the issue of Global Warming. The website encourages
visitors to learn about the history of the issue, examines why the recent
changes to the atmosphere are a problem, and empowers them to help solve the
problem by giving specific examples of ways they can help to reduce
emissions of gases that cause Global Warming.
The idea of "focusing" is carried through the site using a metaphor of a
camera and film. Animated imagery and the subtle use of sound sustain the
metaphor throughout. Images and colors have been carefully chosen for their
contribution to the message. Games and activities developed specifically for
the site provide an essential interactive component to a visitor's
experience.
